Navigate Your Most Complex Injuries with an Expert

Are you dealing with a persistent injury that isn’t healing as expected? Have you seen multiple practitioners without getting a clear diagnosis or a lasting solution? It might be time to consult a Specialist.

Coast Sport is proud to be one of the few clinics on the Central Coast offering consultations with a Specialist Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist, Mr. Brett Doring.

This service is a dedicated, high-level resource for patients and referring practitioners navigating complex musculoskeletal conditions.

What is a Specialist Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist?

The title “Specialist Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist” is not just a name—it’s the highest level of clinical qualification a physiotherapist can achieve in Australia.

Awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists (ACP) after a rigorous 2-year training and examination process, this Fellowship (FACP) signifies a clinical expert.

  • Peak Qualification: Fewer than 1% of physiotherapists in Australia hold this Specialist title.
  • Expert Skills: Specialists demonstrate expert-level skills in assessment, diagnosis, and management of complex sports and musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Clinical Leaders: They are leaders in the profession, involved in research, education, and developing new approaches to care.

When you see a Specialist, you are seeing a practitioner at the very top of their field.

When Should You Book a Specialist Consultation?

This service is designed for complex cases. You may be a candidate for a Specialist consultation if you are:

  • Struggling with a persistent or recurring injury that has not responded to traditional treatment.
  • Seeking a clear and definitive diagnosis for a complex issue.
  • Needing a trusted second opinion before committing to a surgical pathway.
  • Recovering from complex surgery and need expert-level rehabilitation planning.
  • An athlete with a high-performance-related injury that is affecting your sport.
  • A practitioner (Physio, GP, or Surgeon) seeking a second opinion for your patient.

What to Expect: Your Consultation Process

The Specialist consultation is a collaborative service designed to support you and your primary treating practitioner.

Step 1: The Initial Specialist Consultation (60-90 minutes)

This is an in-depth appointment. Brett will conduct a comprehensive review of your history, medical imaging, and previous treatment. He will then perform an expert-level clinical assessment to form a clear diagnosis.

Step 2: The Management Plan

You will receive a detailed explanation of your condition and a comprehensive, evidence-based management plan. This plan will outline the next steps for your recovery, whether that involves specific rehabilitation, further investigation, or referral to another specialist.

Step 3: The Follow-Up & Handover (30-45 minutes)

A follow-up consultation is typically scheduled to review your progress and ensure the plan is on track. After this, a detailed report and the comprehensive management plan are sent to your regular treating physiotherapist or referring doctor.

The goal is to empower your primary practitioner with an expert-level plan so you can continue your rehabilitation with them. In some complex cases, further intermittent specialist reviews may be recommended.

Book Your Specialist Consultation

You do not need a referral to book a Specialist consultation, however, this service is intended for complex and second-opinion cases.

If you are currently seeing another physiotherapist, we encourage you to discuss this service with them. We can work directly with them, and a referral letter detailing your history is always beneficial.
