Para Sport at Coast Sport

Coast Sport is proud to support the Central Coast community by delivering high-quality, evidence-based Para Sport and inclusive exercise services. We work with individuals across all stages of their sporting and physical journey—whether the goal is injury rehabilitation, building foundational strength and fitness, improving elite athletic performance, or safely returning to the sport you love.

Our Para Sport services are delivered by an integrated, multidisciplinary team including APA Titled Sports & Exercise Physiotherapists, Accredited Exercise Physiologists (EPs), and Strength and Conditioning Coaches. Every program is individualised and tailored for people living with physical, neurological, and/or intellectual disabilities, with an unwavering focus on safety, community inclusion, and functional performance. Our goal is simple: to help every athlete and active individual on the Central Coast feel well, move well, and perform well.

Our Services

Exercise Physiology

Our Accredited Exercise Physiologists are university-trained allied health professionals who specialise in prescribing clinical exercise for people living with a disability. They take a holistic approach, carefully considering individual abilities, medical history, and personal functional goals.

Programs are specifically adapted and modified using our state-of-the-art facilities and adaptive equipment. This ensures every exercise is safe, effective, and accessible, ultimately supporting long-term participation in sport, physical activity, and daily life.

Physiotherapy

Our physiotherapists have extensive experience working within the Para sport, disability, and exercise sectors. Their role includes comprehensive biomechanical assessments, injury management, pain mitigation, and hands-on manual therapy where appropriate.

Utilising world-class diagnostic and rehabilitation technologies—including VALD performance testing—they design individualised rehabilitation programs. These plans incorporate necessary adaptations to support safe recovery, prevent future injuries, and promote sustainable participation in sport.

Strength and Conditioning

Working closely alongside our Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists, our strength and conditioning coaches deliver safe, high-performance training programs. Located across our premium centers in Tuggerah and Erina, our clinics feature advanced rehabilitation equipment, including Keiser pneumatic resistance training systems, which allow for ultra-precise loading.

For Para athletes, these programs target physical capacity—building strength, mobility, and endurance—while incorporating sport-specific training to enhance performance in your chosen discipline.

NDIS Supported Services

At Coast Sport, our Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists provide capacity-building services to NDIS participants who are self-managed or plan-managed. All assessments, treatments, and training blocks are strictly aligned with the participant’s specific NDIS goals and individual needs.

Participation in sport and physical activity plays a critical role in overall mental and physical wellbeing, community engagement, and independent quality of life. Our team is committed to helping NDIS participants build the capacity, confidence, and physical skills needed to engage in sport and exercise safely and meaningfully.

Other Funding Options

Para Sport athletes and individuals may also be eligible to access our services through:

  • Private Health Insurance rebates (dependent on your provider and cover).
  • Medicare GP Chronic Disease Management Plans (CDMP), which can provide subsidized access to our allied health services.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do I need a doctor’s referral to book a Para Sport appointment?

No, you do not need a GP referral to book an appointment as a private patient or under self-managed/plan-managed NDIS. However, if you wish to access subsidised sessions under a Medicare Chronic Disease Management Plan (CDMP), you will need your GP to complete and lodge the referral paperwork prior to your first consultation.

What should I bring to my initial assessment?

Please bring any relevant documentation regarding your medical history, reports from specialists, recent medical imaging (X-rays, MRIs, scans), and details of your current NDIS plan/goals if applicable. We also recommend wearing comfortable, non-restrictive clothing and supportive footwear suitable for movement.

Which Coast Sport clinics offer Para Sport services?

Our multidisciplinary Para Sport services are available at both of our premier Central Coast locations: Tuggerah (located within the Mariners Centre of Excellence) and the Erina Performance Hub. Both clinics are fully accessible and equipped with world-class rehabilitation and training technology.

How do you customize exercises for different types of disabilities?

Our practitioners are movement specialists. We utilize comprehensive initial assessments to understand your unique biomechanics, strengths, and limitations. Using our state-of-the-art gym spaces, we employ adaptive equipment, precise pneumatic resistance machines (Keiser), and evidence-based modifications to ensure your training environment is safe, highly targeted, and optimized for your goals.

Can you help me transition back into competitive sport after an injury?

Absolutely. Our multidisciplinary approach is built for this. By combining the acute injury management of our Physiotherapists with the performance-based programming of our Exercise Physiologists and Strength & Conditioning coaches, we can guide you from early-stage rehab all the way back to sport-specific training and elite performance testing.
