Exercise Physiology can assist during and after pregnancy to manage conditions such as back and pelvic pain and provide exercise guidelines and prescriptions. We can provide guidance on returning to exercise post-pregnancy by prescribing a personalised program.
Back/Pelvic/Hip Pain (during or post-pregnancy)
60% of pregnant women will experience pain during or post-pregnancy therefore assessment of the entire body mechanics and posture can identify potential contributing factors to your pain.
Treatment includes joint mobility, exercise prescription, lifestyle modification and sleeping strategies.
Postnatal Depression
More than 1 in 7 new mums experience postnatal depression. Exercise has been shown to assist with the symptoms of postnatal depression.
Gestational Diabetes
Gestational diabetes is usually tested for at 24-28 weeks and is diagnosed when the mother’s blood sugar levels are too high. Lifestyle interventions such as exercise and diet can help manage this condition and improve the health and well-being of mum and bub.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
PCOS is a common condition affecting 5-10% of women at a reproductive age and can cause irregular periods and infertility. Treatment involves lifestyle interventions such as exercise which can alleviate symptoms and lower the risk of Diabetes and Cardiovascular disease.
Endometriosis
We aim to change the protective response your body creates and encourage it to move once again. Exercise can have a protective effect against diseases that involve inflammatory processes such as endometriosis. Treatment options include exercise prescriptions to relieve chronic symptoms.
Breast Cancer
Breast Cancer is the most common cancer for women. Exercise is beneficial in alleviating the side effects of chemotherapy such as fatigue and nausea. If surgery is needed exercise will help to restore range of motion strength and flexibility after mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.
Menopause
Exercise can support you during menopause and develop an exercise programme that can prevent the onset of chronic conditions.
