At Coast Sport we are understand the demands of pointe on young dancers. It requires a large amount of strength, mobility and technique.
A pre-pointe assessment is a necessary step when looking to go on pointe. It will reduce your risk of injury and ensure you progress to pointe in the safest way possible.
A pre-pointe assessment will be done under the supervision of one of our physiotherapists and will usually take an hour.
It will assess a number of aspects that are important in progressing to pointe, including:
Injury historyBody alignment
Technique
Balance
Core strength and stability
The stage of your physical development
Previous dance training
Foot and ankle strength and stability
Our pre-pointe screenings will give you a thorough breakdown of your strengths and weaknesses. It will also allow us to tailor individual exercises aimed at improving such weaknesses and a way in which we can track your improvement.
We recommend you have a pre-pointe screening 3-6 months before you plan on starting pointe, as this will give you enough time to work on areas that need improvement before you progress.
